The "Va Va Voom" is slightly too tight in the wrists.
I started my pattern making course today. It looks like it's going to be fun: it's a small class (just the four of us) and the tutor seems really knowledgeable. We started off by taking many body measurements, and I have to say that was a humbling experience. Methinks it might be time to lay off the muffins.
We are making this frock:
and while obviously not a dress I'll ever wear, it's a good basic fitting shell.
I've decided I'm not a fan of dress sizes, and I think they should be replaced with colours. Instead of a measurement of x corresponding to a dress size of y (where y is an unfeasibly high number), dress size y will become dress size blue. As in, my bust and hips are size red, and I'll have to scale to blue for the waist.
Seriously, I was anorexic for most of my teens and my early twenties, and large numbers in relation to my body still give me panic attacks (although obviously not enough to put down the aforementioned muffins). Maggie Alderson once wrote a column saying that sizes should be replaced with tags such as "Foxy Lady", so I might accept that if my colour idea doesn't catch on.
On Saturday David and I went to his uncle's birthday party up the coast. I had, of course, made him a lovely cushion:
[oh go on, guess how old he is] and in an act of extreme stupidity we went and left it at home. Geez I was cross. I posted it off to him on Monday so hopefully he will receive it soon (and will like it!)
Upcoming this week includes finishing my latest baby blanket (baby is due any day), a coaching session, NPC semis, lunch on Saturday and afternoon tea on Sunday. And I must make/confirm xmas plans.
I hate dress size numbers. I don't mind the knitting convention of taking the bust measurement, as that sounds really good in inches.
In dresses, I have clothes that fit in sizes 6 through to 24. Yay. Can I take an average?

I think part of the reason I was so horrified was that I was measured in centimetres, not inches. 40 sounds ok, 105 sounds dreadful!

Centimetres? Ack. I don't know my measurements in cm, I think in inches there.
