I have an abiding addiction to style blogs, particularly the ones where the writer takes pictures of her daily outfit choices. Six months into reading this type of blog and I have embraced belts (previously shunned) and tried some different clothing shapes.
I had thought about adding some element of those blogs here, when I realised three things:
1. I am, without a doubt, the least photogenic person in the world. That’s not meant as a self-deprecating cry for compliments – I am seriously the least photogenic person in the world. I get maybe one decent photo every year or so, and the idea of taking daily photos of myself sends me into shivers.
2. While style is an individual thing to be sure, the three main sources of my clothes are a) KMart, b) op-shops and c) stuff I’ve made myself. I’m not really sure if any of that counts as capital-S Style.
My solution to all of the above was to enlist the help of Mzz Clara. A style icon in her own right – and who needs a head anyway! – she fits into most of my clothes and has no qualms about having her photo taken.
From time to time Mzz Clara will appear here wearing something I’ve made or an outfit that I put together and liked, or something. As I write this she’s wearing a petticoat and her xmas choker; you never know what she’ll do next.
Wrap top: op-shop; black belt: op-shop, skirt: Vogue 9668, fabric from op-shop; petticoat: ?op-shop.
That photo was taken in our front courtyard, and it’s the indoor plant hospital. I have a really bad record of indoor plants dying on me, so when they look less that lush I rush them to the courtyard, where they generally recover. After doing this five or six times I have switched to a feather arrangement inside rather than causing any more stress to plants.
Thank you for linking to Fashion For Nerds. I'm reading it, and going backwards through the archives, because I think it's time I considered dressing like a grownup.
