David's brother and family are back from Cambodia for a month, although for a very sad reason. David's grandmother is terminally ill and they have come back to see her for [probably] the last time. And it's hard! I mean, it's lovely to see them again, but knowing the reason for their return does put a dampener on the whole thing.
It was her birthday on Easter Sunday and I made her this:
because of course I made her a cushion! What else would I do?

First, a small discussion about Air New Zealand:
Because we booked our tickets to NZ back in, like, March, we were able to get tickets with Air NZ at about the same cost as that of the discount airlines. Unlike the discount airlines Air NZ has free access to those little televisions in the seat in front of you (I don't know what they're called, but I'm sure you know what I mean) AND a free snack and beverage service. Also Air NZ has a fantastic safety video which always makes me giggle (I am 12).
So, in conclusion, we are fully converted to Air NZ and heartily recommend it to all!

We arrived in Wellington and met up with the family - so nice. I have missed them all so much.

I've had a pretty bleh week - isn't it funny how being bullied can instantly take you back to high school? - and I have turned to Easter treats for solace.
For various reasons I haven't been able to eat Easter treats for the past few years, and oh! I am so excited! The very clever people at Bakers Delight had the [frankly genius] idea to add chocolate chips to hot cross buns - and really, is there anything that isn't made even better by chocolate chips? I am delighted.
I'm no longer able to eat my much-loved Cadbury Creme Eggs, but I have replaced them with a whole bunch of wee Lindt eggs, and I'm finding the subsitution acceptable. I used to work on the line at a Cadburys factory - where you ate all the chocolate you wanted and let me tell you they took a beating on that policy when I worked there - and my love for the Creme Egg will never be surpassed.
I posted off a birthday parcel to my wee niece today and that made me think about my birthday present for my big niece. I made her a necklace, and while I'm sure she opened the present hoping for *things 16 y/o girls like* and ended up with something made by her Mad Drunken Auntie she was gracious enough to have her photo taken wearing the necklace. So I could see that she had received it and worn it at least once, and really that's all I ask.
Although yeah, I do hope she liked it; it was made with much love.
I can't decide if the card I made for my step-nephew is cute and whimsical or strange and tacky:
(it's four $5NZ notes folded up and tied on to a card to look like a pile of presents).
In fairness, however, I'm not sure what to buy for him - I don't know what he's in to, I'm not sure how old he'll be, in fact I've never actually met him. But I figure that a cash gift from a mystery auntie - however small that gift - is always welcome.
